Ida Joglar is an award winning filmmaker, editor and video artist from San Juan, Puerto Rico, whose work has taken her from the depths of the Pacific Ocean to the tallest peak in Africa.
In 2009 she relocated to New York City, where she is currently based, to complet her MFA in Photography, Video and Related Media at the School of Visual Arts.
Ida’s first feature, Kili Big (2021), a documentary about a community of plus-sized women’s attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, premiered at Bentonville Film Festival where it won the Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature, and went on to play at renowned festivals including Heartland, Tallgrass and Montclair (Competition Winner New Jersey Films). It was distributed in the US by Crackle and internationally by DOCS Barcelona. Athena Film Festival honored Ida with the Breakthrough Director Award for her work on Kili Big.
Ida’s subsequent project, the documentary short My Name Is Annabel, explored how to creatively collaborate with its main participant, Annabel, a charismatic performer with Down syndrome. It premiered at Heartland Indy Shorts, received the Audience Award for Best Short Film at Tallgrass Film Festival and is set for distribution this year by PBS, as part of their VOCES series.
In the narrative space, she has written and directed several short films as well as collaborated with various directors, editing shorts and feature films Keep In Touch (2015) and Babysitter (2015).
Ida’s commercial work includes mainly short form documentary-style videos for clients including SeaLegacy, Only One, Vice Sports, Planned Parenthood and Dior.
